1. Choosing seed

In order to get the best results, it’s best for us to use a high-quality ginger seed too. It’s preferred for these seeds to meet the requirements of quality standards that healthy plants with genetic quality possesses. A seed with high physiologic quality means that the plant will have a high percentage to grow up healthy, whereas a good physical quality means that the seed be free from pests and diseases when planted.

After choosing the seed for ginger that’s going to be used, a seeding process is recommended so that the seed is ready for planting.

2. Ginger seeding technique

The seeding technique is basically done in order to uniform the seeds that’s going to be planted. It’s best to germinate the ginger seed after choosing it. Seeding ginger can be done using these techniques:

Seedbed technique

Make a 10 x 8 meters space, it’s not needed to be fancy because this will be used to seed the ginger plant. On the inside of the space will be created a seedbed that is made of hay, then put a ginger rhizome on top of it before putting another hay.

Repeat the same thing until 4 layers of it are formed, with the topmost part being hay. Next thing to do is to take care of the seed in the seedbed by watering it daily and spraying it with fungicide in order to prevent parasites.

3. Cultivating the growing media

In order to get the best result when sowing, it’s preferred for the soil to have the properties in order to grow ginger on it. For example, pay attention to the acidity of the soil that’s going to be used, if it’s going to be used to plant ginger, you can use chalk to increase or reduce the acidity of the soil.

4. Ginger planting technique

5. Drying and watering

After planting them, it’s best to decide when to water the plan itself. 6. Stitching

7. Weeding

In the time span of 2-4 weeks after planting, the next best thing to do is weeding. But in order to weed out, an attention to the weed that grow out near ginger is required

Then, the second weeding will be done when entering 3-6 weeks old age. If the age of the ginger is somewhere between 6 to 7 months, it’s no longer necessary to do weeding again because the ginger already have large rhizomes.

8. Heaping

9. Fertilizing

Fertilizing using organic fertilizer is very recommendable to any plant as it avoids the usage of chemical compound to the plant. That’s why using compost or manure is one of the best choices if you want to fertilize organically.

Administrating organic fertilizer can actually be done at the early stages of planting. The administration of fertilizer is enough just by sprinkling it on the area of the plant that have been decided with recommended dosage of fertilizer.

10. Giving pesticide

If ginger is afflicted with pests and or other parasites, it’s best to give pesticide as a part of daily care to avoid permanent failure in planting ginger. Giving pesticide can be done by spraying it and should be started when storing the seed from seeding.

11. Sowing

Sowing is a process that’s long awaited by most people. But for ginger, the sowing is divided into a couple of plants. If the ginger that has been planted is going to be used as a spice on food, then we can plant ginger for just 4 months by breaking the rhizomes.

But if the ginger is to be sold on the market, we can sow the ginger when it’s 10 – 12 years old. The characteristic of a ripe ginger is when the leaves changed colour from green into yellow, and when the stem is a bit dried out.
